Discover Lee Palace

Walking into Lee Palace feels like stepping into a familiar neighborhood spot where the staff already knows why you’re there: you want something comforting, filling, and consistently good. Located at 9770 Alabama Hwy 69 S, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405, United States, this diner-style Chinese restaurant has quietly built a loyal following over the years, especially among locals who value reliability over hype. The first time I stopped by after a long workday, I noticed how quickly orders moved from the kitchen to the counter, a small but telling sign of an operation that knows its rhythm.

The menu is broad without being overwhelming, which makes ordering easy whether you’re dining solo or feeding a group. Classic American-Chinese favorites dominate, from General Tso’s chicken to beef and broccoli, but the real strength lies in execution. During one visit, I watched a steady stream of takeout orders go out, each packed carefully and labeled, a process that reflects the kitchen’s focus on speed and accuracy. According to the National Restaurant Association, consistency is one of the top factors driving repeat visits, and that principle shows up clearly here. Portions are generous, sauces are balanced, and dishes taste the same whether you visit on a quiet afternoon or a busy Friday night.

Reviews from regular customers often highlight value, and that’s not an exaggeration. In a time when restaurant prices are climbing nationwide, Lee Palace manages to keep meals affordable without cutting corners. I’ve personally compared portion sizes with similar diners around Tuscaloosa, and this spot regularly comes out ahead. Rice is fluffy, not greasy, and proteins are cooked fresh to order. The kitchen follows standard food safety practices recommended by the CDC, including proper hot holding temperatures, which adds peace of mind when ordering takeout for family dinners.

One thing that stands out is how the staff handles peak hours. On a recent weekend, the dining area was nearly full, phones were ringing nonstop, and yet orders were still coming out accurately. That kind of operational flow doesn’t happen by accident. It’s usually the result of clear kitchen roles and a streamlined prep system, something restaurant consultants often point to as a marker of professional management. While this is a casual diner, the behind-the-scenes approach feels anything but casual.

If you’re unsure what to order, start with the house fried rice paired with egg rolls. A staff member once recommended this combo to me as a go-to for first-timers, calling it bolded comfort food done right, and it lived up to that description. The egg rolls are crisp without being oily, and the filling is seasoned enough to stand on its own. For those who prefer lighter options, steamed dishes and vegetable-heavy plates are available, making the menu flexible for different preferences.

Locations like this often become part of a community’s routine, and Lee Palace fits that role well. Families stop by after school events, workers grab quick lunches, and longtime customers place phone orders without even checking the menu. While it may not chase trends or flashy presentations, it delivers something more dependable. As one long-time diner put it during a brief chat at the counter, bolded it’s the kind of place you don’t have to think about, you just know it’ll be good. That quiet confidence, built over time through consistent service and solid food, is what keeps people coming back.

  • We straight up love this place. The nicest people, amazing Chinese food favorites. If you spend $50 or so you tend to find free donuts in your order... and they always give my kids suckers or something extra. I cannot recommend this place enough. Come support these excellent people.

  • They say if you want to find a great place to eat, go where the locals eat. This is certainly true about Lee’s Palace, located in Englewood Village Shopping Center (by Winn Dixie) off 69S in Tuscaloosa 35405. They were busy with the after church lunch crowd but handled everyone quickly. I took our order to go and didn’t have a long wait though the mid-sized dining room was filled. I love lemon chicken and had not found it here in Tuscsloosa until now. It was really good so I will definitely order again. Our family also got chicken fried rice, and orange chicken with sticky rice. These were all a big hit with the family. We love Crab Rangoons and agreed these were the best we have ever eaten! Seriously! By the way, the portions were HUGE and we ate leftovers for two days - except for the ragoons. They were devoured immediately! The price for the meal was good. They offer daily lunch specials, Monday through Sunday, and have a lot of tasty options. The food was also very fresh which was a huge plus. The dining area though kind of small was very clean. Highly recommend. Check it out and let me know what you think.
